Abstract

Combining description and explanation, affect and intellect, this article offers a meticulous exploration of an anonymous painting. It highlights two key concepts for understanding the depth of the canvas: on the one hand, the crossed gaze between the object and the subject, which places them in the same universe; on the other hand, the vertical image of the date palm as an aerial tree, which enriches the various interpretations. This complex and synthetic approach attempts to transcend disciplinary boundaries
