Urbanization reality and housing needs in Algeria
Abstract
This study aims to shed light on urbanization as a phenomenon that affects various societies, through the analysis and interpretation of this phenomenon. Recently, Algeria has experienced a new urban phenomenon characterized by rapid urbanization, evident in both material and immaterial aspects. This change is the result of numerous historical, economic, social, and cultural factors, and it has been linked to a shift in concepts regarding housing and lifestyle itself. The traditional view of housing as merely a shelter has evolved into a contemporary aspiration shaped by advancements in science and technology. Consequently, large and medium-sized cities have become focal points for migrants seeking housing and a better quality of life, leading to the emergence of various urban challenges, such as the uncontrolled growth of informal residential neighborhoods on the outskirts of cities
