Contribution of Algerian civic education curriculum to rise Citizenship values

Abstract

The current study aimed at investigating the extent to which the Algerian civic education curriculum contributes to rise citizenship values, through exploring them in the third-grade civic education curriculum which was taught during the academic year 2019-2020. Content analysis method was used to answer research questions. A sheet was used to analyze the content of all units in the curriculum. The main findings were:

the third-grade civic education curriculum contributes to rising the citizenship values through the textbook’s content, such as homeland belongingness, rights and duties, democracy principles, and environment values.

homeland belongingness is of 41.35% values. Then rights are the second order with 25.96%. After that, the duties are of 23.08%, and democracy principles are of 7.69%, finally, the environment vales are of 1.92%.
