The Role Of Safty Barriers In Reducing Occupational Accident Based on their Contributing Factors - A Case Study of Sonatrch Company (During the Period of 2011-2022)
Abstract
The aim of this research paper was to identify the role of safety barriers in controlling
and mitigating risks in the oil industry. This was achieved through a range of physical and nonphysical
methods and procedures in the form of defensive layers aimed at reducing the severity and
danger of occupational injuries based on the factors that cause them. The field study was conducted
in the regional directorate of production of Sonatrach in Hassi Messaoud. The study concluded that
human factors are the biggest cause of occupational accidents, accounting for 46% of all accidents,
followed by organizational and environmental factors at 20%. Thirdly, accidents outside working
hours accounted for 13%, and technical factors accounted for 11%. In addition, other
miscellaneous causes accounted for 10%. This highlights the importance of reinforcing the culture
of safety barriers and their effective role in reducing the severity and danger of occupational
accidents.
