The evaluation of the efficiency performance of the public and private sectors in Algeria Using the Data Envelopment Analysis Model

Abstract

This research based on the measurement of the achieved performance by several sectors,
of different activities.
These sectors belong to the public and private, and here the following problematic was raised:
What is the efficiency level of the performance of public and private sectors in some economic
activity sectors in Algeria?
This research was based on the Data Envelopment Analysis Model, which is a method based on the
linear programming to estimate the maximum limits of the performance, and then measuring the
degree of relative effectiveness of a group of decision- making units by depending on a set of its
inputs and outputs.
The research has found that the two sectors, are nearly similar in the performance; because the
activity sectors that suffer from inefficiency and ineffectiveness (decrease in the level of
performance), represent the largest part in the activity sectors, in both legal sectors.
However, it should be noted that some activity sectors, achieved a high degree of efficiency and a
good performance in the private sector compared to the public sector.
The efficiency vary among the other activity sectors. In addition to that, the negative impact of the
external environment surrounding the work of most activity sectors on its result in not achieving
volumetric efficiency
