Anxiety state in adults preoperative and postoperative conditions in lower limb amputation surgery

Abstract

The objectives of this study are to follow the evolution of anxiety state of
the same subject in both preoperative and postoperative situations, to carry out a
synthesis of the notion of anxiety, its clinical manifestations. It is essential to
anticipate the emotional responses of patients who are candidates for lower limb
amputation surgery. The study is based on data collected during a semi-directive
clinical interview with 13 patients who agreed to participate in our research and
complete Spielberger state anxiety inventory. Spielberger theory of anxiety is the
theoretical framework of our study. The anxiety comparison at each prepostoperative
evaluation time was performed using Wilcoxon paired sample test. The
results, obtained show that all patients are anxious in both preoperative and
postoperative periods with anxiety levels ranging from average anxiety to high
anxiety.
