Humiliation and glorification discourse An approach from the perspective of rhetoric of audience
Abstract
This research aims to study the responses of audience about the theme of Sheikha (the artist) covered in the Moroccan series "Al Maktoob", specifically the responses of the preacher Yassin Al-Omari, and the responses of the leftist Ahmed Aseed. The research relies on the rhetoric of the audience as a cognitive framework, and the corpus is an excerpt from a lecture by Yassin Al-Omari, and two press interviews with Ahmed Aseed. The research was proceeded from the assumption that the responses of the two actors constitute a rhetorical discourse, as they involve rhetorical purposes aimed at influencing and persuading. The research path was also directed by many questions, The research ended with a number of results, including Yassin Al-Omari’s production of rhetorical responses resisting the authority of the media discourse, and others that are not rhetorical demeaning the image of the Sheikha, in contrast to Ahmed Aseed’s production of rhetorical responses resisting the derogatory discourse of the preacher, and glorifying the image of the Sheikha
