pragmatic dimension in the Arab dictionaries

Abstract

This study deals with the pragmatic dimension in the Arab dictionaries, it
based on the hypothesis that one of the reasons for inflating the old dictionary
inputs is that it added contextual uses, and it is not limited to the semantic field
only. In order to verify this hypothesis, the study dealt with the difference between
the semantic and pragmatic meanings, then it divided context to Linguistic context
and non-linguistic context, and it focused on the non-linguistic context as the stage
of pragmatic approach, and divided it to a cultural and social context, all this with
models on each of them from the Arabic dictionaries.
