General Linguistic Atlases and their Stages of Achievement: Study on the experiment of the General Linguistic Atlas of North America

Abstract

This study aims to clarify the basic stages by which the preparation
of general linguistic atlases, a type of atlases that requires great efforts,
many preparations and abundant resources; Because they are a
comprehensive atlas that Covers a wide geographical region, and reflects
most of the linguistic features in a given language; From sounds, through
vocabulary, until to the meanings of structures and expressions. We have
based this work on the pioneering experience of the general linguistic atlas
of North America, which has been accomplished over many years by a team
of leading scientists headed by: Hans Kurath and William Labov.
