Abstract
The effect of iodide ions on the corrosion inhibition of mild steel in 20% sulfuric acid in the presence of 3- méthylthio-4-tolyl-1,2-dithiolylium against anion I- (DTYI) was studied by different electrochemical techniques such as electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, potentiodynamic polarization. The obtained results showed that DTTI effectively reduces the corrosion rate of steel. The addition of potassium iodide (KI) enhanced the inhibition efficiency (R %). Inhibition efficiency was found to be greater than unity, suggesting that the phenomenon of synergism exists between DTYI and iodide ions. The adsorption of DTYI alone and in combination with KI followed Langmuir adsorption isotherm.
