Abstract
In this work we knew the color distribution of the sand dunes of Ouargla region. By using manual chromatic separation, we have obtained six (6) different colors. They are: white, gray-black, brown-red, transparent white, transparent yellow and the remainder of separation process. The components of each samples have been identified, by using infrared absorption spectroscopy (FTIR). Analysis of experimental results showed that the difference of colors relates directly to the chemical composition and the contained impurities. It have been found that the white and gray samples contain an important concentrations of calcium carbonate (CaCO3), whereas the transparent white and yellow ones contain quartz (SiO2).
