The impact of marital violence on the mental health of abused wives

Abstract

The study aimed to identify the effect of marital violence on the mental health of
abused wives. The study sample consisted of (60) married wives who visited the forensic
doctor at Batna Hospital. The sample was intended to select married women, aged between
21-40 years, who are subjected to physical or psychological violence by the husband not less
than 4 times a year. The descriptive comparative method was used. Mental health measure
was adopted set by Asma Badri Al-Ibrahim : it consists of (40) paragraphs, measuring four
dimensions (social, psychological, behavioral, intellectual) to verify the stability of the scale
applied on 30 wives where the coefficient of Vkronbach for the scale as a whole (0.87) is a
high value and this indicates that the scale is constant , The internal consistency of all axes
ranged between (0.80 - 0.86) and this indicates the,
veracity of the scale .The results of the study showed that the level of mental health of abused
wives from the husband was low, and finding differences between the abused and non-abused
wives, and the absence of differences in the levels of mental health according to the case of
wives abused workers or non-workers.
