Abstract

The subject of self-esteem among university students is one of the
important topics that arouse the interest of specialists in many fields. During university
period, the student moves from adolescence to adulthood and maturity; however,
research on students' mental health states that academics face many constraints
including those related to adjustment and responsibilities specific to adulthood.
It is from this perspective that the researchers looked at the subject of self-esteem
among university students by comparing two groups of students, one enrolled in the
first year and the other in the second year, applying Cooper Smith's self-esteem scale.
This measure was applied to a sample of 138students studying at the University of
Algiers2. The researchers found that self-esteem is high among second-year students
and low among first-year students.
