Summary, etc. In the present study, the influence of certain physical treatments on the germination of acorns and development of the young seedlings of Holm oak were analyzed. The results obtained showed that a removal of the teguments, followed by a soaking for 72h in ordinary water strongly stimulates the germination speed of acorns. This treatment does not influence the further growth and development of the young sowings. However, a heavy mortality (59.6%) of young seedlings was recorded after transplantation. This mortality is probably due to the fungal pathogens responsible of the damping-off disease.
