Abstract

This study aims to measure the relative efficiency of all types of Algerian higher education institutions, during 2008- 2014.Study variables are: the total number of students enrolled in undergraduate, in post graduate and academic staff (full-time equivalent); and graduate students. We have applied the two models of Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) for Constant Returns to Scale (CRS), and Variable Returns to Scale (VRS), by the two orientations (Input and output). We came to the conclusion that there are two types have achieved full efficiency according to both models and orientations; three types haven’t achieved efficiency according to both models and orientations and, one type haven’t achieved efficiency according to CRS model and orientations, but has achieved full efficiency in the VRS model and orientations. This give us three units of reference through which we identified improvements needed in inputs and outputs.
