Résumé

The literary reconstruction of contemporary Arab thought is already manifest in its own original
mythology. It is enough to reread carefully the primordial gesture of the Ancestors in order to
become fully aware of it. Certain legends mark the imagination of a people more when the
collective memory captures them and perpetuates them by reshaping them indefinitely
according to cultural climates. The great characters of these eternal epics then become the
emblematic figures of the reconquest of the identity robbed by colonialism. Antar Ibn Cheddâd
thus deploys its mythical aura over the whole extent of Arab thought hitherto in intellectual
hibernation.
