Indicators for the Learning of Non-Linguistic Disciplines (DNL) in French from the Linguistic Transition in the 5th Fundamental Year in Burundi
Résumé
In Burundi, Kirundi remains the language of schooling from the 1st to the 4th fundamental year. The situation changes from the 5th year when Kirundi passes the baton to French to serve as a medium in the lessons of the DNL. We then wonder if the knowledge in French is sufficient over the four years to prepare the student to follow the DNL lesson sessions from the 5th year. It is with this in mind that the analysis of linguistic indicators was carried out after having taken them out of French textbooks and guides for grades 1 to 5. To quantify the basic linguistic tools identified, a similar inventory was carried out in the educational materials of the DNL in 5th year. The results show that the work on specialized vocabulary must be intensified during the first four years to allow the pupils a better understanding of the DNL from the 5th year.
