The Eclectic Approach to English as a Foreign Language Teaching Evidence of a New Trend
Résumé
The aim of this study is to shed light on eclecticism as a new trend in languages’ teaching and learning with a special focus on English language teaching and learning. The objective of the study is to drive administrators in the field of education together with teachers to the significance and importance of adopting this teaching method in languages’ instruction as the eclectic approach to foreign language teaching is the most effective approach since all other theories have strengths and weaknesses. This approach can effectively work for any kind of learners since learning is fun and innovative due to the unique nature of the learning process. One of the premises of eclecticism is that teaching should serve learners not methods. Thus, teachers should feel free in choosing techniques and procedures inside the classroom. The current study ends up with the following recommendations: teachers should know that they have the right to choose the best methods and techniques in any method according to learners’ needs and learning situation. Besides, they can adopt a flexible method technique so as to achieve their goals. Furthermore, they may choose whatever works best at a particular time in a particular situation
