The Role of Relevance in Translation
Résumé
For the purposes of the following research, we understand translation (or translation exercise) as an innate or acquired ability to convey a message from a source language (SL) to a target language (TL), by decoding and semiotic encoding, ensuring that the content, form and effect of that message on the recipient are preserved. We offer a relevance-based interpreting process to achieve quality standards in communication: a translator requires a broad knowledge of the mother tongue, as well as the contextual and cultural elements of the target language.
