THE COMPOSITION OF ESSENTIAL OIL AND ALCOHOLIC EXTRACTS OF THE SAHARO-ENDEMIC SPECIES Myrtus nivelleiBatt AND Trab (MYRTACEAE
Abstract
Ourstudy aimed the valorization of endemic plantof the Algerian Sahara: MyrtusnivelleiBatt and Trab of Myrtaceae family . Theextractionof the volatile fractionandpolarcompoundsofferednew perspective onits possiblepharmacological properties.Histological sectionsrevealed the presenceofsubepidermalsecretoryglands. The essential oilwas extractedbysteam distillation, gavea 0,291%. of yield. The analysis ofthe chemical composition byGC/MSrevealedthe presence of 48compounds,characterized by the presenceof ahigh proportion ofsesquiterpenhydrocarbons (δ-elemene: 15,69%azulene:6,18%andα-patcoulène: 2,87%), alcohols (1,2-benzenediol: 5,36% andoctadienol: 2,42%), inoxygenated monoterpenes(1.8cineole: 12,06%) and monoterpene alcohols(α-terpineol: 13,01% ). The analysis of theethanolicextractshowed its highamountof totalpolyphenols (734mgeq/mgES), flavonoids (181,1mgeq/mgES),flavonols (711,75 mgeq/mgES) anthocyanins(25,5mgeq/mgES)andtotal sugars(17,26mgeq/mgES), while the methanolicextractpresentedlower levelsbut it isremarkably rich intannins(155,27mgeq/mgES).The rate offlavonolsinthe flavonoidic extractis estimated as 706,25mgeq/mgES.
