BACTERIOSTATIC ACTIVITY OF SOUTH ALGERIEN HONEY

Abstract

This work is based on the study of the effect of 30 honey samples from southern Algeria ( Ghardaia, Laghouat , Biskra Bechar ) on a range of bacterial strains pathogenic characters : Escherichia coli , Staphylococcus aureus , Clostridium perfringens , and Bacillus subtilis . For this we first determined the floral origin of honey which helped to highlight: 15 types are monofloral; 14 multifloral and 02 are empty pollen. Then we evaluated the bacterial activity by choosing the agar diffusion technique. The majority of samples tested honeys have a bacteriostatic effect; only three of them have exhibited both effects at once, bacteriostatic and bactericidal, depending on the bacterial strain tested. The best result is noted in samples of Biskra with maximum values of inhibition zone 29mm and 22mm this probably returns to their floral origins.
