Abstract

The study ofcamelmeat sectorin the northernAlgerian Saharashowed a slightincrease in consumptionin recent years, despite the dominance ofother species (sheep and cattle), particularitydueto the eating habitsof Algerian society, especially non-Aboriginal.The analysisof the data of the animal'ssales intheOuedSoufmarkets,OuarglaandGhardaia. Hasshowed a clear demand of Sahraoui camel populationinthe three markets, especially that of Oued Souf. Furthermore, the analysis of slaughter rhouses data during the recent years hasnoted aclear increase of camelslaughter in OuedSoufanda decrease in GhardaiaandOuargla. About marketing channelsofcamelmeat, four circuits have beenhighlighted.However,the contribution ofcamelmeatto supply themajor citiesofnorthernAlgerianSahara(Ghardaia,OuarglaandOued Souf) remains until nowlimited
