Abstract

The present work aims the morphological characterization of five safflower(Carthamus tinctorius L) cultivars sampled from farmers of Touggourt region. The trial in randomized complete block design with four replications was conducted in Sidi Mahdi Experimental Station of National Institute ofAgronomic Research of Algeria (INRAA) Touggourt. The study bases on quantitative evaluation of 25 agro-morphological traits. Statistical analysis of results by Principal Component Analysis (PCA) using the XLSTAT program has highlighted the interdependence of evaluated parameters and significant differences between cultivars. The study revealed 22 positive relations and two negative relations. Sixteen significant and positive correlations highlight the link of growth parameters between them and with the yields. The cultivar Merdjaja, the most productive, expressed the best values for the majority of the studied parameters.
