Abstract

In this work we interested in two strains of Saccharothrix sp. PAL54 and PAL42 in order to study and optimize the production of chloramphenicol by looking for the best culture media that promote this production as well as the growth of the two strains of actinobacteria. All experiments were carried out in duplicate and each value represents the average of two values. The target microorganisms selected are Bacillus subtilis ATCC 6633 (Gram-positive bacteria, antibiotic-sensitive) and Klebsiella pneumoniae E40 (Gram-negative bacteria, multi-resistant to antibiotics) which used with two strains PAL42 and PAL54, and for three culture media (two semi-synthetic media: MSS1 and MSS2, and a complex medium: ISP2). The best selected culture medium was MSS1 medium. The latter has proved favorable for the production of antibiotics by the two Saccharothrix strains. Although the antibiotic production was lower in this medium compared to the MSS2 and ISP2 media, MSS1 was selected due to the fact that we have favored the medium which contains the least yeast extract while allowing good growth and good activity.
